Our Environment

All of our care centres are purpose built and have recently undergone significant refurbishment to reflect the specialist needs of our residents. Each centre has a level of design detail and environmental provision tailored to the specific service and which reflects the specific physical and mental health challenges of our residents.

All residents have a separate bedroom with ensuite and we encourage them to personalise their room.  This helps to make their room familiar, reflective of their life and ease the transition from home.

Use of memory boxes, where reminders of favourite people, things and precious life events are stored, helps to stimulate memory and reassure residents, helping them settle.

Our colour palette is gentle, soothing and avoids deep/dark colours as we understand they are confusing for people with dementia.  We have three different colour themes residents can choose from for walls, bed linen and furniture.  We also use simple design strategies including coloured strips to highlight doors, light switches and coloured toilet seats to make the environment familiar and easy for our resident coping with complex dementia to find their way around.

Each service has an individual garden, all of which have recently had significant redesign and upgrading. Our objective was to provide innovative designs driven by resident input which would create a balance of amenity and recreational space as well as tranquil and calming areas for residents and their visitors to enjoy.

In particular, the addition of sensory and stimulating planting, pacing areas, occasional seating and never ending pathways wide enough to accommodate wheelchairs as well as ensuring the planting and key elements like dovecots are viewable from bedrooms makes them accessible to everyone.
